This five-week course will provide students with principled and strategic nonviolence practices for the work of antiracism in their respective contexts. Drawing from a robust theology of social change, scriptural stories of resistance, and luminaries of faith and justice, students will be equipped for lifelong embodied revolution through creative direct action. Each week, students will encounter core themes of nonviolence, resources to support further learning, and exercises to live into solidarity with targeted communities.

The Rev. Lauren Grubaugh serves as Associate Rector for Formation and Discipleship at St. Timothy's Episcopal Church in Centennial, Colorado. Co-founder of the Resistance School with activist and CSA Racial Justice Institute Coordinator Andre Henry, she has taught the spirituality and strategy of nonviolent struggle to people from around the world. Lauren is also a certified Kaleidoscope Institute dialogue Facilitator and a Steering Committee member for the Clergy Emergency League. She holds an MDiv with emphasis in Christian Ethics from Fuller Theological Seminary, a Diploma in Anglican Studies from Virginia Theological Seminary, a BA in Spanish from UCLA, and completed Executive Education in Leading Nonviolent Movements for Social Change at the Harvard Kennedy School.
Rev. Jerry Maynard is The People’s Priest in Houston, TX with a ministry of protest, praise, and community organizing. A spiritual renegade and social revolutionary, Fr. Jerry uses creativity as a method to facilitate a holistic approach to ministry. Drawing from his Latinx and Indigenous background, Father Jerry seeks to build communities of care through embodied nonviolence and radical solidarity at the intersections of church & society. Through Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service - a leading nonviolence education organization - Fr. Jerry is a certified nonviolence trainer and has provided training in-person & online for several years with different nonviolence/peace organizations; offering an integrated approach to faith-based social action. Currently, Fr. Jerry holds a professional certificate in Christian Futuring, Ministry Coaching through TRAIN|ACT|GROW L.L.C. and is completing a Master of Contextual Ministry (MCM) with a concentration in postmodern leadership & community development with Rev. Dr. Robert Duncan Jr. at Northwind Theological Seminary and plans to do advanced graduate work.
